General Information
The DESQview File Search Utility is a text gathering program.
It can search any text file, and when it finds a match to the
key you enter, will display the line(s) of the file it finds the
match in. You might use the File Search Utility to search a
large AUTOEXEC.BAT file to find all the occurances of "LOADHI".

General Information (continued)
If the file you are searching is properly formatted, the program
can serve as a very efficient company data-base or in house
telephone directory. Although the program works with any plain
text file, certain codes can be added to the file to customize
and enhance the screen. See the [F3] function for more details.

General Information (continued)
You must specify the name of the file to be searched on the
DOS command line after the program name. As the program was
initially written to be a company in-house telephone directory,
it will search for the file FONES.DAT if no filename is
specified.

General Information (continued)
The program is written to be friendly when run from a network.
This allows many users to search the same database. Although
the file cannot be changed while it is being searched, the program
"times out" after a few minutes of inactivity if left in the
middle of a search, to facilitate the editing of the data file.

General Help
You can search on any word or partial word in the target file.
Normal Mode (red prompt) enter as many letters as you think will
identify the key and hit [ENTER]. The less letters entered, the
wider the search will be. Hit [ESC] to clear the prompt and enter
a new search string.

General Help (continued)
In Immediate Mode (magenta prompt) the program searches immediately
after the second letter is entered. To narrow the results of the
search, enter more letters one at a time. To start a new search,
Hit [ESC]. To toggle between Normal Mode (red prompt) and Immediate
Mode (magenta prompt) hit [ALT-I] (the [ALT] and [I] keys together).
